Schaloen castle was built around 1200 as a rectangular building with over two meters thick walls. Even the original oak doors ( 300 years old ) are still present in the castle and have a thickness of twelve inches. The small windows in the castle were made for the safety of the castle residents and their guests .
The castle has a beautiful domed driveway with lime trees , is situated in a conservation area and has a beautiful landscaped garden , trails and a castle moat .
