Far from stress and crime this town is still what it was in colonial times: a safe heaven of peace and quiet, you can leave your doors unlocked all day. In the typical restaurants and bars of the central plaza, the Zocalo, and on the boardwalk along the river you can enjoy the produce of the area, fresh fish, seafood and tropical region is a mecca for sports: The beaches along the Gulf of Mexico stretch for miles, the intricate river system is ideal for water sports; quiet level roads are perfect for cycling and the nearby Pico de Orizaba (ca 5630m), is the highest mountain in Mexico and a must for ries of colonial importance and wealth are evident in Tlacotalpan.
