How & where to have a wedding in Ireland
It's said that Ireland, once visited, is never forgotten.
The Irish landscape has a mythic resonance,
due as much to the country's almost tangible history as its claim to being the home of the
fairies and the 'little people'.
Sure, the weather may not always be perfect,
but the dampness ensures there are fifty beautiful shades of green to compensate -
just one of the reasons Ireland is called the Emerald Isle.
To have a wedding in Ireland, Churches and registry offices are the only places licensed to perform
legal marriage ceremonies in Ireland. However if you wanted to have a marriage blessing,
exchange of vows etc... outdoors this can be arranged. Lots of couples do this and
have a legal wedding either in their own country or get married in a Irish registry office beforehand.
It is worth noting that there are residency laws applicable for
couples who wish to marry in a registry office in Ireland but are not living here. The time you will need to be in Ireland before you get married depends unpon where you are from.
These residency laws usually require that you spend atleast
8 days in the area in Ireland in which you wish to marry and after a following 21 days your Irish wedding.
These residency laws do not apply if you marry in a church in Ireland.
Weddings in Ireland are fully legal for citizens from US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and most other countries.
